En mars 2022, Gabriella Papadakis est sacrée championne olympique et championne du monde de patinage pour la cinquième fois. Alors que tout semblait converger vers les JO 2026, Gabriella choisit de se retirer et d'annoncer sa retraite. Ce livre raconte les raisons intimes et politiques de ce geste inattendu : pourquoi quitter la glace alors qu'une autre médaille d'or olympique était à portée de main, et pourquoi briser les codes du patinage quelques mois plus tard en réapparaissant aux côtés d'une femme ?
Fruit d'une introspection radicale, ce récit dévoile une trajectoire de vie façonnée pour briller, quel qu'en soit le coût. Entre victoires éclatantes et blessures invisibles, besoin vital de danser et violence du milieu, acclamations dans le monde entier et intime conviction de la nécessité de partir, Gabriella livre un témoignage à la fois lucide et sensible sur la réalité du sport de haut niveau. Elle écrit pour ne pas disparaître dans le silence imposé aux femmes, et pour se réapproprier son histoire et son art.

Gabriella studied classical music for seven years before giving it up to pursue figure skating full time. At 18, she picked up a guitar and began singing covers, just for fun. During the pandemic, unable to skate, she turned back to music as a way to cope — and started writing her own songs. While she now works on original material, she decided to honour that journey by recording The Montreal Live Sessions: four songs that have accompanied her throughout her life. The first one will be released in December on YouTube.

Tracing the Caller
A collaborative choreographic figure skating project that weaves together feminist critique, queer theory, and the history of gendered expression on ice. Led by Gabriella Papadakis, Kaitlyn Weaver, and Tina Chen, the piece revisits early figure skating practices to question power, embodiment, and identity, reimagining how gender can move, shift, and be performed through skating.
